Living in the Cone Zone

Apparently, my building is under construction.

I say that like I don't have a clue about it.

But I do.

It was probably three years ago, my HOA announced that we would be having a two million dollar special assessment for our building.

Um, yeah.

Anyway, it took two votes to pass. And WAY too many long, argumentative, boring, and overly informative meetings.

And some assistance from the city.

But the paperwork is done.

And the construction workers are on site.

Also on site?

Scaffolding.

Yep. Lots of it.
Every morning for the past week, I have woken up, done my quiet time, and showered.
When I get out of the shower - I am greeted with a lot of racket.
The workers are on site. And drilling scaffolding into the walls.
They are walking along it outside our condos.

The first day, the scaffolding came right up next to my balcony.

A few days later it crossed in front of my balcony. And in front of my bedroom windows.
I could tell the workers had been on my deck, as my patio furniture had been moved around. And the railing removed.

Then, I came home last Friday to this.

This was once my sweet little balcony.
Now, I open my sliding glass door and have to stoop under metal bars to go outside.

And to sit on my patio chairs?

I get to duck under this fun little X.

And the view?
Priceless.

This project is supposed to take 9 months.

I am just going to say it now, I think it will probably be two years.

But I am glad that my house is first. Hopefully first started means first done.

PS Next time you visit, please don't forget your hard hat. Apparently, it's required.

  1. Sadness. You better rescue your S'More party from the patio before they accidentally break it (or use it!). I would think first started first done, too, at least that's what I'm hoping for for you!

  3. Being under construction is the worst! Just think how great it will look when its all done and hopefully that will be sooner rather than later!

  4. There's nothing like living in your home during construction. UGH!! At least you have a sense of humor about it!
