A Thrifty Copy-Cat

If you haven't gathered by now, when I see something I like, I'll do it myself.

If you buy a really cute skirt, shirt, shoes, necklace - you name it - and I like it, I'll probably go out and get it myself.

I have no shame.

I am a full fledged believer in "copying is the sincerest form of flattery". I am sorry friends. It is the way it is. It is the way it always will be.

Anyway, so far I have copied brownie covered goodness, rosette wreath, and cherry cupcakes (among other things).

Last Friday I linked up with What I Whipped up Wednesday: Friday Edition and saw an adorable how-to for homemade hurricanes!!! On Thursday I had been roaming the aisles of the Dollar Tree - unsuccessfully looking for foam wreath forms - and trying to get my creative hat on. I even picked up some glass candlesticks thinking, "what could I do with these?" I guess my brain just doesn't work that way. I don't see things as what they can become, only what they are. But thanks to Chelsea for the inspiration, because after seeing her blog, I headed back to the Dollar Tree and picked up three candlesticks, three vases, and three small pillar candles. I wish they had taller vases like she used, but hopefully the next time I'm there, there will be a little different selection.

I only found the 17 bean and barley mix at my local Trader Joe's, so my filler isn't as festive as hers. And the candle to vase ratio is kinda large, so the beans don't distribute too well. Anyway, it's a work in progress. I am going to keep hunting down larger vases or smaller candles, and hope to make them again!

  2. JJ - I may end up with a redo...although I just thought of another idea...involving those dotted crate and barrel tealight holders you gave me...i wonder if those would look cool - or unproportional....hmmm
