Texts from Mom: The Mouse Saga

We haven't done a Texts from my Mother post in a LONG time.
The good news is she just got an iPhone. The bad news is she also got a Facebook.
I think the auto-correct feature is helping out with her typos and weird occurrences of numbers and symbols (I kinda miss them). But I think it is increasing her frequency of texting.
So is the mouse situation she has going on at home.

I know it's a little hard to follow along, so no worries if you click away. But if you do read, you're in for some MOUSE DRAMA!

And now she is sending pictures of all of the evidence.

That last part, I'm not really sure what she is trying to say...
Update...this is what she was referencing:

And then later I find out the entire house has been changed into a giant mousetrap.

And here is an up close of my dad's favorite trap, a mouse drowning trap.
Complete with chocolate syrup. Or as the guy at Home Depot called it, Mouse Crack.

We also have a situation where the squirrels are eating all of my dad's tomatoes in the back yard.
Don't get her started on that drama....

Flu Tips, From Mom

And for the latest installment of Texts from My Mother...
Mom has been home from work for a few weeks from an injury, and recently caught a little bug.
So, her normal health advisories have been ramped up with FLU TIPS!
And also, dog updates.
Nurse Band-Aid is in full effect with these.
And as she states, they are not just from my Licensed RN Mother, but also the CDC.

You're welcome.

Good news, she has a million more.

My mom and I took the exact same shot, from the exact same spot, two days in a row, without realizing.

A few weeks ago, my dad emailed me these pictures.
Complete with captions.
I realized they would make an excellent guest post.
So while I'm off gallivanting for a couple weeks, I thought you'd enjoy a little something from my dad's POV.

Texts from My Mother: Heat Stroke Edition

Haven't shared any texts from my mom in a while.

My sister and I each got this while we were in Arizona.
Actually, my sister even got it twice.
(Clearly, my mom is a bit more concerned for her).
EMJOY!

And now you know.
Because knowing is half the battle.

And also.
Also. Also. Also.
Katygirl is a finalist.
She's #8.
Let's help her get to #1.
ONE CLICK is all it takes to give her some vote love for her wall art.
DO IT.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Oui, Oui, Weird!

When the parentals returned from Paris they didn't waste any time texting me first thing the next morning.

Maybe the jetlag fueled their randomness....

Or

Maybe not....

Texts from My Mother: The Nutella Conspiracy

The other day, I randomly got this text from my mom....

And if you've been around here for any length of time, you know that random texts from my mom are not that surprising.

That weird symbol instead of a 0 in the 20 - that is my mom's signature symbol.
She doesn't know how to make a 0 on her phone, but it's cool, cause then I know that she really is texting me and it's not some weird old school flip phone hacker.

In fact, my sister got the exact same text...and made sure to post to Instagram.

I stop by my parents' house on my lunch break most days.
Yesterday when I arrived, no one was home (except Mylie of course), and this was sitting on the kitchen table waiting for me.

My mom loves a good class action.
Actually, thanks to her I've received several hundred bucks over the years from miscellaneous class action suits.

In this case it basically says Nutella claimed it was a healthy item - and we all know that low cal nutella exists in the same world as unicorns and rainbows.

I am defintely not plotting to take down Nutella, but if they want to pay me for eating their insanely high calorie deliciousness, I may as well jump on board.
So, who is with me?
Are we filing?

Texts from My Mother II

It's been a while since I have gifted you all with some CuppaMama texting gems.

Let's start here.
Normally I can somehow figure out what on earth my mother is trying to convey, typos, shorthand and all...
This time I just rolled with it, until I saw her at lunch time.

Shortly after that message she blocked my text messages on her phone for the 864th time.
She blocks me and sends frantic "did you get my text!?!?!" messages when she doesn't receive my responses.
Until I point out to her she probably unknowingly blocked me again.

Then we have this series of messages from a few weeks ago during the NFC Championship game.

She doesn't have a competitive bone in her body (don't worry, I more than make up for that).
And she will tell you she hates sports, especially football and baseball.
But I know the truth.
She'll catch game highlights in patients' rooms.
Or claim she is going to spend the afternoon at home alone NOT watching the game.
But proceed to spend the second half of the game texting me, my dad, and sister non-stop.
My grandmother might be the 49ers and Giants biggest fan, and it's impossible for that to not rub off on my mom, hate it as she may...

Please note the randomness of "I pad rules" and the plethora of medical terms, and "barky hearsall" still no clue what that means...

49ers may have lost, but having a mom like this is definitely winning.

I mean, after all, she is very concerned about my exposure to Carbon Monoxide apparently.

And when you are stuck in Houston nothing beats wishes from Bert...well except for wishes from Ernie!

A Monday Funny: From Dad

You may have read the texts from my mother.

And the emails...

But I have gotta tell you,

my dad is even more tech savvy than mom.

He uses instant messenger.

And email.

And texts.

On a regular basis.

He aslo surfs blogs.

Mostly cycling blogs.

Thankfully, he came across this gem of a blog...and forwarded it along to me with the following message,
since he and I will be biking in Barcelona two weeks from today.

PS Mug Swappers - Don't forget, make sure you mail them before August 23rd!

Texts from My Mother: Email Edition

So, as you may have seen in THIS POST, my mother and technology is kind of an awesome combo.

She has refused to have a personal email address for EVER. But I got her one anyway, for times she would need it. And set it up to forward to my account so she didn't have to check it.

But one day she got inspired to crossover into the murky waters of G-Mail.

And let me just say, her typing skills on a computer are pretty much the same as on her basic cell phone.

Awesome.

Here is the first email I ever got from my mom.
She figured out how to do it all by herself.
I was like, BEYOND impressed.

I had just MET the Pioneer Woman and was showing her the pictures and explaining to her that you can win a trip to her ranch. She was rooting for me to be picked.

Then mom decided to get a little more chatty on the emails...entertaining to say the least.

She is a nurse, uses military time, and offered a few get well soon tips to me as I was fighting some kind  of cold.

Then, she wanted to get fancy...

I sent her some encouraging words...but she assured me this whole email as a regular thing wasn't going to be taking off any time soon....

And I like this last one, because she calls my MacBook a PowerBook (A for effort).
And asks a gagillion questions. But you know she doesn't check the email, so answering all of them was kind of irrelevant. Ha!

I don't really receive emails from my mom any more...I think that ship has sailed.
But the texts definitely roll in...

More on those later! :)

Texts from My Mother

If I ever want to make myself cry, all I need to do is read the texts that my mom sends me out loud to friends.

They are that funny. Laugh so hard you cry funny.

First off, you need to be able to translate what she writes:

This says - "Going to San Francisco today. Can you visit the dogs (on your lunch break)? Home at 5pm. Dad has a check up at the doctor."

h6e apparently is how my mother texts the word HOME.
Like I said, you may need a translator.

But she sends some pretty cute texts as well. They make me laugh, and glad that she is my mama:

We had gone to iHOP for lunch that day. She is telling me that she enjoyed it. We also had talked about our European Cruise this summer. She is a little bit excited (and so am I).

Then there was the text-bombing that took place last summer while she and my dad were in Hawaii (over his birthday), and I stayed at their house watching the dogs. The best is when she includes pictures. Though I seriously question her thinking that her daughters really want a picture of their dad sunbathing...

See if you can follow along:

I really can't help but reply in mom-speak myself.

It's kinda like telegram operator status. STOP.
Get it? STOP.

Also, please note how she suggested I invite some friends over.
It's like she is scheduling playdates for me again.
Thanks Mom.

I love that she calls it "mango t." and she is having it NOW. My dad is biking NOW. and she is hungry NOW.

And here is where it gets good - it was my dad's birthday while they were in Hawaii, and here is the sequence of texts she sent me.

Also, my mom is one of those "live it up when you get old" type of people, she likes pouring old people a second glass - and she always says she doesn't want to live to get old and gray, so she may need to take up smoking, drinking, and not wearing sunscreen to prevent that from happening. She is just silly. And kinda funny.

And then there is this last gem...

Boarding is a choice? I have NO CLUE WHAT THAT MEANS.
Hahah!

Anyway, they just got back from their Hawaii trip THIS year. Dad's birthday again. And there was an entire bee sting/spider bite incident that involved a trip to the ER. You KNOW that I have some good texts from that.

Don't worry. I will share with you.

PS There are e-mails too....
