10 on 10: August 2012 Poolside Edition

Hello from HOT Arizona.
My sister and I are having our annual get away.
Four day weekend of swimming, sunning, & shopping.
I start looking forward to the next one the day I leave.

Here's a 10 shot glimpse of our day in 110* luxury...

Hotel room coffee.
FUN to make.
But watery.

Emergency text to my sister while she was working out this AM.
"Bring breakfast. And real coffee".
Even the room coffee bar in the background is shining down on it.

God Bless Arizona.
And their 110* temps.
And off season resort pricing.

Ready for some fun in the sun.
Well, fun in the sunscreen.
Because SPF 100 is how I roll.

Made sure to get to the pool early.
Scored a spot in the shade.
Which is crucial for pale girls like us.

Hot dogs are my love language.
Poolside hot dogs,
 are pure BLISS.

Followed by poolside diet coke.
Delivered to my chair.
Just like I like it.

Post pool naptime.
Hot dogs, diet coke, naps.
The trifecta of vacation perfection.

Post nap.
Rested up for dinner.
Follow the chilies to Aunt Chilada's.
Follow the chilies home.
They help you out.
They're nice like that.
You know?

Best flour tortilla chips ever.
EVER. EVER. EVER.

Bonus pic:
Arizona skies win, always.

Phoenix, out.

10 on 10: All Star Giants Edition

Oh hey, the National League San Francisco Giants just won the All Star Game.
Giants 5, National League 3, American League 0.
Woot woot!

Here's how the day played out....

Woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
Literally.
Or, figuratively.
Hey,  okay, emotionally.
Just feeling some anxiety.
Hannah encouraged me to do this 15 Day John Piper devotional with her a couple weeks ago.
And lookie here.
The Lord knew.

Another 10th in the office.
A lot of this today.

Which also meant a lot of these.
Thanks to Katygirl for feeding my addiction.

Also.
These two are a match made in MyFitnessPal Heaven.
The dressing is like $5 a bottle.
But 15 calories for 2 tablespoons.
I think that works out to $100 per calorie.
Super worth it.
Target.
Go.

She's the best.
Sometimes, a good midday snuggle can get me through the rest of the afternoon.

Obviously, I keep the essentials handy at work.

Working on a soon to be revealed project.
With my dad.
Except he is a machine and finished the project and pimped my ride while I was at work.
More to come on that later.

Picked up a fresh loaf of sourdough.
For this.
Shoulda gotten two loaves.
Apparently I was going to a Sourdough Addicts Anonymous meeting and didn't know it.

I also made one of these.
Accidentally burned the bottom.
Puff Pastry totally wins since I was able to flake off the burned part all easy peasy.

Oh, and then the Giants dominated.
But we already covered that.

God Bless the US: Every Heart Beats True to the Red, White, & Blue

It's here.
God Bless the US!!!!
Time to recap your fourth over here in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.

My sister and brother in law had vacation time last week.
They rented a two bedroom cabin half a block up from Lake Tahoe.
So I did what any normal sister would do.
Crashed their vacay partay.

I posted the above photo to Instagram informing my sister I was on my way, and instructing her to have dinner waiting,  and then drove solo 4 1/2 hours up into the Sierras.
SOLO.
Scary.
But me, Ravigail & the SF Giants (losing, BOO) on the radio,
followed by an awesome playlist made it there.
No problemo.

I arrived to these two nerds.
But Gourmet Nerds.
My favorite kind.
Steaks on the grill.
Guac and Chips on the patio.
Off to a good start.

And then there was a bit of a grease fire.
While I continued instagramming the above picture, my sister panicked and ran for water.
Distractedly Calmly I informed her water was not for grease fires.
I also instructed them to pull the grill away from the wall.
But not under the umbrella.
And we closed the lid on the barbecue for a bit.
Saving lives.
It's just what I do.

The house had a hot tub in the back yard, and backed up to a golf course.
There was a lot of ducking each time I heard "FOURRRRR"

After a fair amount of hot tubbing, there were some fireworks down at the lake.
We caught a few through the trees.

And caught what quite possibly might knock Love Actually, The Holiday, and Home Alone out of the running for my favorite holiday movie.
Independence Day.
Will Smith.
Dreadlocked Aliens.
I mean.
Best. Movie. Ever.

And pizookie.
As my sister said... "It's for Amurrrica"

We rested up, because in the morning, it was time to Party in the USA.

I woke up early, and enjoyed some patriotic coffee by the dawn's early light.

And then, back inside to do Betsy Ross proud.
Flag Fruit Skewers.
Sub bananas for marshmallows.
WINNING AMERICA with that one.

Patriotic fruit skewers pair well with pancakes and nutella.
And sliced bananas.
I mean, Jack Johnson WAS onto something with his song.
Just keep them off my skewers and fruit salads.

And then it was off to do ACTIVITIES.
As my sister requested.
Sea Lake Kayaking.

Sadly, it hurts my soul when iPhones go along for water activities, so mine had to stay at home.
You'll just have to take my word on it.
2 hours of beasting through Tahoe.
MyFitnessPal was happy.

MyFitnessPal was not super happy about the double hot dog.
But hot damn, hot dogs taste SO good on the 4th of July.

The afternoon was a return to the lake.
For some sun.
And a lot of Floatopia.

Other beachgoers were definitely feeling the Spirit of America.
And decorated their spaces accordingly.

We wrapped up our 4th festivities back at home.
Among the trees.
And in the hot tub.

I am proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free to use a flag towel.

More hot dogs.
Lot's of hot dogs.
Hot dogs, hot dogs, hot dogs.
I forget how much I love 4th of July.
I will never forget.

We spent our next morning taking in the views
from Sea to Shining Sea.
Or something like that.

A little lakeside coffee.
Sun umbrella.
Light reading.
And patriotic parasailers.
It would not be a lie to say I REALLLLLLY wanted to go up in that thing.

A quick two and a half days of America the Beautiful.
Purple mountains, majesty.
It was a good time.
So happy 236th, America.
You don't look a day over 235.

I need to know how you Let Freedom Ring.

I Bruise Black and Bleed Orange*

*True story. Phrase courtesy of Margaret.

Tuesday night a few 16 of us headed out to AT&T Park to watch the

WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS

the

SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS

take on

the uber lame, uber violent, Los Angeles Dodgers.

Or as my grandma calls them, the "Dirty Dodgers".

(boo. hiss.)

We arrived at the park as the sun started to go down. And bundled up with our scarves, hats, and jackets.
It was gonna be a COLD night.

We joined the crowds and walked through the Prop 19 Demonstrations smoke filled haze into the stadium.

We climbed the million stairs up to the upper level, where we had a gorgeous view of the entire park, and the Bay Bridge.

Oh, and World Series Champs banners.
Obviously.

It was a good night at PacBell AT&T Park.

Our man Timmy (TIMMAYYY!!) was pitching.

Have you seen this kid pitch?

He gets a lot of press for his hair.

And smoking habits.

But this is the real reason they call him The Freak.

He is our freak.
Our 155lb 180lb powerhouse.
He defines beastly.
Don't be jeal.
Okay, you totally can be. We are the champions after all.

So, despite my love for Timmy (TIMMAYY), my true baseball love is the Hot Dog.
Nothing better than a baseball hot dog.

Well, except a World Series Championship ring.
Which the guys on the field already have covered.

And see that guy sitting next to me?
That's my dad!
He came too!
HOLLA!!!

Anyway, the game was FAB. U. LOUS.
The headwear?
OUT OF CONTROL.
Cindy, Ellen and Ang went for the multicultural look.

And Dave, got some Gold Logo BLING.

So, like, back to the game?

Dodgers scored first. Then we got on the board.

Then we tied it.
And then took the lead.
But then the Dodgers led again.
And the pack of Dodgers fans behind us started cheering louder than the Giants fans.
But that's because we're classy.
And subtle.
And then we took the lead again.
And Giants fans let loose.

BEAT LA.
BEAT LA.
BEAT LA.

And then it was the 9th inning.
And our other little gem came out.

Maybe you have heard of him?
Brian "Fear the Beard" Wilson.

He is known for his beard.

But I love him for his cleats.

They are pretty sweet.

And certified ONLY 50% orange.

Would not want any MLB fines for going over the 50% mark.

So now, we are only 3 outs away from sending the Dodgers packing.

The chant of BEAT LA was getting louder and louder.

And those Dodger fans? Sitting down. And shutting up.
Their silence was sweet.

And if you can't tell by the look on Ellen's face, we got the W!!!!!

No, not a blow out.
Not total domination.

Slow.
Steady.
Torturous.

That is how our World Series Champions like to roll.

And we love coming along for the ride.
