PinterPuppy Kitchen

Let's talk.
Somebody had a birthday last week.
Her name is Mylie.
And she is the cutest 8 year old you'll ever meet.
At least, the cutest 8 year old on 4 legs you'll ever meet.

My cute blog friend April, blogged about some homemade dog treats she made for Mylie's blog-dog crush, Hewitt.
It doesn't get much easier than the recipe she used!
So, birthday girl Mylie was in for quite a treat.
Literally.

1/2 c. rolled oats
1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce
1/2 c. whole wheat flour
2 tbsp natural peanut butter.
(Mix, Roll, Cut, Bake on greased cookie sheet 400* 15-20 min)

I headed to the store, and stocked up on the purest form of these ingredients that I could.
I've never made anything for Mylie myself, so I wanted to take every precaution possible.
Just in case.
I want another 8 years with her.

See the labels?
Super simple ingredients.

Mylie is used to me being in the kitchen baking.
I have a galley kitchen, so she always plops herself right there at the doorway.
She had no idea what she was about to experience.

I mixed.

And stirred.

And rolled.
And cut.

And while I rolled and cut some more, I let Mylie do something all birthday girls should get to do.
Lick the bowl.
I think she wasn't so sure about it at first.
Like, is this a trick?
And then she went to town.
And gave me that look.
The "don't you dare touch this bowl" look.

And the next look was more like "is that it!?"

No Smiles, that isn't quite it.

So we baked for about 20 min.
(April's recipe calls for 15, but she suggests a few extra to crisp up the treats, we could have even baked a few more)

And how cute are they?
The heart shaped treats turned out the best.

And then I made her wait VERY, VERY patiently while we documented for the blog.
I mean, look at that expression.

And then it was go time.

I think it's pretty obvious she loved them.

I mean, she's a treats girl, for sure.
Perhaps even a connoisseur
Ever since the very first day.

Happy Birthday Miss Mylie, I love you.

This post is brought to you by your resident crazy dog lady.

  1. Best post ever. I can't wait for the girls to wake up and read it. Thanks for linking up! And I think Mylie thanks you, too.

  2. Awesome. I'm sad that Scout's allergic to peanut butter- I can't think of a comparable substitute that might work for her. I still can't get over that Mylie has a treat in front of her within reaching distance and doesn't go for it until you tell her to. Maybe Scout just needs another four years to get that nailed down.

  3. :) I love this post and I'm glad she enjoyed them. I let Hewitt lick the bowl (and spoon) and you would have thought he'd died and gone to heaven. He was chasing the bowl all over the kitchen floor to get every little bit. :)

  4. A. Mylie is adorable.
    B. I don't have a dog. But if I did, I would have a rule that all treats be heart shaped. Because that's just precious.

  8. I would totally make these if we had a dog! Mylie is adorable!

Please tell me you tasted a little of the batter...because I would have tasted a little bit of it, if for no other reason than to say I tasted a dog treat ;)

  11. Your pics are adorable... well you've got great subject matter. I made this recipe for my pup Bailey - but used Pumpkin instead of applesauce. Yummy (at least I was told). When I went to store them in the fridge, I got a howling hound... commanding the door to open and release the snacks! He's never done that before. LOL.

  12. i guess i feel jipped a little on the "this is the best post ever" from jess.
it's kinda rude but you already knew that.

i'm proud of you for doing this even with the wheat flour fiasco.
you didn't blog about that but i am bringing it to the light.
    darkness is always found.

    happy birthday, mylie girl.
i hope you loved your treat.
i will see you in july.
